Pinned insects are delicate, natural specimens, so a little care will help them stay beautiful for many years. Display or store them somewhere away from direct sunlight, as strong light can fade their colors and make the specimens more brittle over time. A dry environment is also important—excess humidity can damage both the insects and the display materials. Hanging them on a wall in a cool, dry room is usually perfect.
When handling your piece, try to be as gentle as possible. Insects are naturally fragile, and their wings, legs, and antennae can break if touched or bumped. It’s best to hold the frame or display by its edges and avoid touching the specimen itself. Keeping the display sealed or covered will also help protect it from dust and curious pets.
Over time, you may want to occasionally check the display for dust or small pests that could damage natural specimens. If dust builds up on the frame or glass, gently wipe the outside with a soft cloth—avoid opening the display unless necessary. With a little care and a stable environment, your pinned insects can remain a striking and unique piece of natural art for many years.
I’d love to see how my pieces find their place with you! So I invite you to take photos of your purchases, and feel free to share them and tag me when you post. It always makes my day to see them out in the world, and I’d be thrilled to feature your photos and celebrate the unique homes these little treasures end up in.
